Supporting hospital resource scheduling at Danderyds Hospital

Operating room planning is one of the most expensive areas within inpatient care. This is due to tremendous staff requirements and the complexity of resources scheduling. In the urban districts, there is also a problem with competence maintenance and a high level of employee turnover which is not cost-effective. This leads to surgery cancellations and increased surgery waiting time. Parallel resource planning needs fewer resources to maintain the same productivity. The Danderyd project has developed scheduling methodologies that are based on mathematical modelling and optimisation. This methodology provides the possibility to reduce work hours while maintaining the same productivity.
